A few weeks ago Dave and I had the pleasure of creating images with Neil Whiteley in Wales. Neil is not only creative behind the lens, he also creates amazing sets to make the best possible use of the space he has. I was extremely impressed with how he works the space and can not recommend working with him enough.
Neil has a very laid back approach to shooting which is similar to how we shoot, so this worked really well, especially with bondage, it allows rope marks to fade and arms to recover.
Neil is really very talented at capturing emotion and creating atmosphere in his images. We all combined some ideas, I wanted to try some with a plastic bag and Neil had some that photographed well so we used his, he was able to capture the images without a horrible reflection on the bag that often happens with plastic.
We began the shoot with some rope and kimono, seeing this as a good opportunity to just go and see where the rope takes us, then doing some more organic rope inspired by some of Araki’s images. There is something incredibly hot about a blade being held to your throat so we played with that idea a little and did some images with a gag and drool.
What we wanted to create were some rope images without it actually being about the rope, or a particular tie or suspension, which I think Neil really achieved. I am already excited about working with him again.
Here is a selection of images Neil captured throughout the day.
